Local Government

Derry City Council is proud of its achievements and its 550 staff who work for the betterment of the city and district Council area. We are committed to the principle of continuous consultation and will seek views and comments on a number of issues and reports. There are 30 elected members (Councillors) in Derry City Council, serving in wards, grouped into five District Electoral Areas, Cityside, Northland, Rural, Shantallow and Waterside. Council elections, conducted by a system of Proportional Representation, are held every four years.
